Bruce McDowell

Bruce McDowell, in his first term of service, is the current Treasurer and has served on the Board of Regents since 2012. He retired from his career in finance in 2015 after thirty-five years as a Financial Manager for a number of organizations (including Hoechst, Agrevo, Aventis, Bayer CropScience, Ministry of Environment, Viterra, Crop Production Services, and Brandt Developments).

It was through Murray Hilderman (HS’84, U’90), who served on the Luther College Board of Regents from 2005-2013, that Bruce joined the Board. Bruce knew Murray from working together at the Ministry of Environment and a fellow member of Christ Lutheran Church.

Bruce’s professional passion is Financial Systems Implementations and he has become an expert in the areas of Accounting, Financial Management, Internal Management Reporting, Systems Implementation, Business Analysis, Policies and Processes. Bruce’s strong Lutheran values, extensive career in finance, and his previous volunteer experience as Treasurer and Elder at Christ Lutheran Church and as Treasurer and Financial Secretary at Prince of Peace Lutheran Church, made him a natural fit for Luther’s Board. He leads by example in his belief that “it is important to give back to the community and help out where [one] can and in whatever capacity is useful.”
