About Luther College High School
Why should I choose Luther College High School?
At Luther College High School, we offer an academically rigorous, university-prep education with small class sizes, a supportive community, and the globally recognized IB Programme. Students benefit from diverse cultural perspectives, rich extracurricular opportunities, and valued traditions. With over 97% of graduates pursuing post-secondary studies, Luther provides the foundation for both academic success and personal growth.
Do I have to be Christian to attend Luther?
No. We welcome students of all faiths and no faith. Daily Chapel attendance and one Christian Ethics class per year are required.
What is Chapel?
Chapel is a daily community gathering focused on reflection, learning, and connection. It is not a traditional church service, though you may hear perspectives from various faiths, including Christianity. Chapel themes range from devotions and guest speakers to SRC-led activities and community reflections.
Chapel also reflects the values found in our Mission, Vision, and Values and supports the broader culture of care outlined on our Caring Community page.
Admissions
What do you look for in an applicant?
We look for students who want to grow academically and personally. Applications are reviewed holistically, including references, report cards, and the student’s own comments to assess enthusiasm, attitude, and readiness to engage in the Luther community.
Can I apply at any grade level?
Yes, Students can join in any grade. We accept applications for Grades 9–12.
Can my child still apply if they have a diagnosis that requires additional support?
Incoming Grade 8 applicants should include all relevant information in the application. Our team will follow up to determine whether our programming and supports can meet the student’s needs and to plan for a successful transition into Grade 9. Documentation outlining any diagnosis and supporting recommendations are required.
Academics
Do you offer French Immersion?
Yes. We offer IB French, Core French (Grades 9–12), and French Immersion for Grades 9 and 10. Students may maintain or improve their French and may continue into IB French.
How many classes do Grade 9 students take?
Grade 9 students take six classes per semester (12 total per year) plus lunch. No spares are allowed. Grade 9 students are strongly encouraged to consider Study Halls which give students a regular, structured time during their school day to complete their homework under the general supervision of a teacher.
How much homework will I have?
Homework varies by class. Teachers clearly communicate the weight of each assignment and coordinate workloads to avoid major conflicts, especially during busy school events like L.I.T.
What is IB?
The International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme is an academically rigorous, enriched program that covers and extends beyond Saskatchewan curricula. It is a globally recognized and acclaimed standard for university preparation.
Will my marks drop if I go to Luther?
Luther teachers follow fair and universal assessment standards as an IB World School. While “Luther marks” may differ from an average high school in Saskatchewan, there is no “standard” of marks within the province. Students typically find they are well-prepared for university and do not experience a drop in grades once they get there.
International Students & Boarding
Do you accept international students?
Absolutely! We welcome students from around the world, including countries such as Germany, Mexico, China, Hong Kong, and French Guiana, to name just a few. All international students live in our safe, supportive on-campus dormitory
Is there a home-stay program?
No, students who live more than 100 km from Regina, including all international students, must live in our campus dormitory. Boarding students benefit from an immersive school experience and on-site support from staff, creating a safe, structured, and welcoming environment so that students can focus on learning, personal growth, and making the most of their high school experience.
Do you offer English as a Second or Additional Language (EAL)?
Yes. We provide an EAL program for students with an intermediate, advanced or higher level of English. However, we do not accept applicants with a beginner level of English. Our program provides a high standard of academic English skills. EAL is offered at an additional charge.
Cost & Financial Support
How much is tuition? Are there other costs?
Tuition and fees vary for Saskatchewan and non-Saskatchewan students.
Do you offer scholarships or financial assistance?
Yes. We offer entrance scholarships, continuing student scholarships, and a bursary program based on financial need. Scholarship and bursary applications are due March 1.
Student Life
Is transportation available for local students, and is there a cost?
Yes. Bus service is available within Regina and in White City/Emerald Park. Families can choose one-way or two-way service, and fees apply.
What is the dress code? Can I wear jeans and sweatpants?
Luther has a dress code. Blue denim jeans are permitted on relaxed dress days only. Sweatpants are allowed in phys. ed. classes and sometimes on relaxed dress days.
How does Luther address bullying and racism?
Bullying and racism are taken very seriously. Clear policies and reporting systems ensure incidents are addressed promptly and fairly. Students are supported by teachers, counselors, and boarding staff. Workshops, classroom discussions, and school events help promote inclusion and respect. Luther’s values-based culture encourages students to treat one another with empathy and challenge prejudice.
What clubs and sports does Luther offer?
Luther offers a wide range of clubs, artistic opportunities, and sports. Students excel nationally in improv and debate, and our musical programs are well known. In athletics, we have strong soccer and hockey teams and host L.I.T., one of Canada’s longest-running student basketball tournaments.
