Part Time Cook

Luther College High School invites applicants for the position of part time Cook. Reporting to the Manager of Culinary Operations, the Cook is responsible for performing duties pertaining to the preparation and serving of all food items on the daily menu.

Responsibilities

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

• Following a menu, preparation and presentation of food to be served in the cafeteria, at catered events, and for other functions as required, typically for between 150-500 people at once;
• Ability to follow a baking recipe and prepare an assortment of desserts as required, typically for between 150-500 people at once;
• Is responsible for ensuring over all sanitation, food handling and storage standards established by the Federal and Provincial Health Departments as well as Luther College are adhered to and met;
• Ensure proper internal food temperatures with a calibrated thermometer while cooking and maintain while holding and serving;
• Keeping food properly dated and rotated to maintain safety and freshness standards at all times;
• Clean and maintain cooking equipment;
• Check menu in advance to ensure there are sufficient food supplies in stock and participate in production planning meetings with the Manager of Culinary Opeartions as necessary;
• Duties may include placing orders for food supplies as required in accordance with proper ordering procedure;
• Adhere to and maintain a respectful workplace as per the LCHS Harassment Policy;
• Complete other tasks as assigned.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent is desirable; training from a culinary school will be an asset;
• A demonstrated commitment to employee health and safety practices and procedures is required and knowledge of cleaning materials and chemicals used in the College and the Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System (WHMIS);
• Kitchen management skills an asset;
• Experience operating equipment such as dishwashers, mixing machines, ovens, toasters and similar equipment typically found in a cafeteria environment is essential;
• Being flexible with frequent schedule and menu changes;
• Being organized, friendly, patient, reliable and hardworking;
• Service oriented perspective with internal and external clients;
• A proven ability to work both independently and as part of a team is required;
• Physical fitness including the ability to periodically lift moderately heavy loads in a safe manner;
• As this position may interact with students, a criminal record check will be required;
• Affinity with the goals of Luther College and the small college environment in which flexibility, warmth, and cordiality are necessary and valued.

Salary and Benefits

The hourly wage for this position is $18.50 per hour which includes vacation pay.

Luther College offers vacation, medical and dental benefits as well as an employee and family assistance plan through the Saskatchewan School Board Association agreement and is available after the completion of a three-month waiting period.
