Three Spring 2020 Luther Graduates and one current Luther Student received the following awards at the Spring 2020 Luther College and University of Regina Convocations (#LutherProud):
> Kaitlyn Verrett - Spring 2020 Luther Medal of Distinction
This medal is awarded at Spring Convocation to a Luther student graduating with a superior academic record of 85% UGPA or higher, and who has demonstrated leadership and service in the community according to the goals of Luther College.
“Being awarded the Luther College Medal of Distinction is a true honour and reflection of my personal growth during the four years I have spent at Luther College. Receiving this medal as a representation of the rewards and challenges of my academic and leadership growth is something that I am forever grateful for. Although my days as a Luther College student have ended, I will always remember the heart and soul of Luther College: the students and staff who have supported me, challenged me, and made me the person I am today.” - Kaitlyn
> Brendan Anderson - University of Regina (UofR) Award - Faculty of Arts Dean’s Medal
The Faculty of Arts Dean’s Medal is presented at each UofR Convocation to the top graduating student in the Arts undergraduate faculty who is receiving a first degree at that Convocation.
"It’s an honour to receive the Faculty of Arts Dean’s Medal, but I believe this recognition really reflects the people around me. Luther has been a wonderful community to be a part of, and its faculty and administrators have supported me in making meaningful connections and investing in my community throughout my degree. My efforts while at the University of Regina have always been met with support, patience, an eagerness to engage, and a willingness to meet at the Owl earlier than is probably appropriate. Thank you to the faculty, administrators, and most of all the students and fellow graduates to whom I owe this distinction." - Brendan
> Shelby Brandt - University of Regina Award - Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of Saskatchewan (APEGS) Gold Medal
The APEGS Gold Medal is awarded to a graduating student who is receiving a BSc degree that includes the course requirements necessary for registration with APEGS. The student must also have displayed a combination of leadership qualities in University and other activities, and academic achievement throughout their program at the University of Regina, while maintaining a minimum program grade point average (PGPA) of 75%.
"I am honored to be selected as the APEGS geoscience Gold Medal recipient this year! It was such a wonderful surprise to celebrate the end of my degree with this prestigious award. I was fortunate to be well supported throughout my undergraduate degree and it is thanks to my support system that accomplishments, like the APEGS Gold Medal, are possible. Thank you, Luther College, for providing me with a home away from home and endless support while pursuing my BSc. Your community is second-to-none and I am forever grateful to be a Luther alumni." - Shelby
> Nigel Olesen, third-year Luther Student - Spring 2020 University Medal
The University Medal is presented annually at the University of Regina's (UofR) Spring Convocation to the most distinguished student at the University based on academic achievement during the previous 12 months.
"I am humbled to be receiving the University Medal. Throughout my time at the U of R and Luther College, I have had the benefit of learning with some incredibly bright and dedicated students, while being academically challenged by faculty who are both generous with their time, and rigorous with their teaching. I also attribute a great deal of my accomplishment toward the terrific staff at Luther, who consistently have helped me choose the best classes, and find the most engaging research material; the genuine care and attention that Luther staff give to their students has always put myself and others in the best possible situation to succeed. I am proud to be a Luther student, and look forward to continuing my studies in such a great environment." - Nigel
