June 2016 “Meeting of the Minds”
On June 9, 2016 the Voluntary Sector Studies Network (VSSN) and the Saskatchewan Nonprofit Partnership (SNP) co-hosted a one-day gathering at Luther College at the University of Regina. Over 65 students, nonprofit organizations as well as university faculty and staff attended this first-ever conference, resulting in energizing and diverse discussions around nonprofit sector advocacy and research, as well as networking opportunities and collaboration.
Our main goals for this meeting were to a) offer updates about VSSN & SNP, and solicit building block ideas; b) share results of two studies recently completed by VSSN & SNP; and c) provide networking and learning opportunities. Our discussions illustrated that there is indeed interest for further community-based research collaborations among nonprofit organizations as well as more learning and networking opportunities to continue these conversations.

Tracey Mann, Executive Director of the Community Initiatives Fund, presents research and discussion on results from the Saskatchewan Social Enterprise Sector Survey, the first profile of social enterprises in Saskatchewan. Part 4 - Update on VSSN and SNP

Part 5 - Summary of World Café discussions, launch of NEW Certificate in Nonprofit Sector Leadership & Innovation (NSLI), closing remarks
Lead facilitators summarize World Café discussions as themes included: sector strategy development, public awareness raising about the sector, provincial umbrella organizing, building networks, most pressing issues in the sector, education and training ideas, and research with and about the sector. This was followed by celebration of the recently launched Certificate in Nonprofit Sector Leadership & Innovation (NSLI), the first of its kind in Saskatchewan. Tracey Mann and Dr. Gloria DeSantis conclude this special event with closing remarks.
