Luther College Faculty Scholarships

Several scholarships ($1000 maximum) are awarded to students on the basis of academic achievements.  To be eligible, students must have completed at least one semester of university and have a UGPA of 77.5% or better.


Scholarship for Academic Dedication
A scholarship of up to $500 will be awarded annually to a student in Arts, Science, or Fine Arts who has completed at least one year of university with a UGPA of 75% or better, demonstrates academic dedication and is a worshipping member of a Christian congregation. A supporting letter from the pastor is required.


Paul Antrobus Scholarship
A scholarship valued at $1000 is awarded to a fourth-year student who is engaged in research or activity that makes a contribution to our understanding of the culture of visioning, cross-cultural approaches to visioning, or consciousness studies. Some examples might include: engaging in Aboriginal or Eastern healing traditions, meditation, sweatlodge ceremonies, religious mystical experiences, feminist spiritual practices, etc. A one-page description of research or activity is required from the applicant. Two letters of support are required from individuals who can speak to the student's potential in the field. Grade point average will be considered.


Philip Assman Memorial Scholarship
From a bequest by an early alumnus of Luther College, three scholarships of $250 will be awarded to three students who are considering a church-related career.


ELCIC Bursary
The Evangelical Lutheran Church in Canada awards one scholarship of $500 to an entering or upper-level student who intends on pursuing a church related career. This bursary is intended for a student who would otherwise not be eligible for scholarships.


James Kurtz Memorial Scholarship in Fine Arts
One $500 scholarship will be awarded annually to an entering Fine Arts student who demonstrates academic excellence. The award is renewable for the subsequent year upon re-application providing the student maintains a UGPA of 75%. In the event the award is not renewed, an upper-level student will be considered, thus all eligible students are encouraged to apply.


George Gehrke Humanities Scholarship
An award of $500 will be awarded to a student who has completed at least two years of study and whose subject major is in the humanities division (i.e. arts and culture, English, international studies, languages, linguistics, philosophy, religious studies or women's studies). The award is based on academic performance, breadth of interest and involvement, and community service.


Honours Psychology Scholarship (A)
A scholarship of $800 will be awarded to an honours student in psychology who has completed at least 75 credit hours of study, attained a UGPA of 75% and a major GPA of 80%, intends to pursue clinical psychology, and is concerned for the psychological and spiritual welfare of others.


Honours Psychology Scholarship (B)
A scholarship of $600 will be awarded to an honours psychology student who intends to pursue clinical psychology and is concerned for others’ psychological and spiritual welfare. If no suitable applicant applies, this scholarship will be awarded to an upper-level psychology student who demonstrates academic ability, financial need, and involvement in Luther College activities.


Kovacs History Scholarship
A scholarship valued at $1000 is awarded on the basis of academic merit to a student who has completed at least two courses in European history beyond the introductory level. Preference will be given to history majors, but students from other disciplines who demonstrate a sustained interest in European history or have taken Luther College courses in European history or related fields are also encouraged to apply.


Dr Arthur Krentz Scholarship in Humanities
This scholarship of $600 is awarded to an upper-level student majoring in the humanities, preferably philosophy, who demonstrates academic excellence. Dr Krentz taught philosophy at the College from 1971 to 2005.


Emil and Natalie Krentz Humanities and Fine Arts Scholarship
A scholarship of $500 will be awarded to a student whose subject major is in the humanities or fine arts. Eligible students must have completed at least 30 credit hours and attained an overall UGPA of at least 75%, and 75% in the major subject. Criteria are creative achievement, academic performance, and demonstrated commitment to the program of study. The student must arrange for a supporting letter to be sent directly from a university professor to Luther College assessing the quality of work. In addition, the student must outline relevant interests, goals, and experience in Section B of the scholarship application.


Leonard Krueger Scholarship
A scholarship of up to $200 will be awarded to a student who has completed at least one semester of university and intends to pursue a career in full-time Christian service, particularly in missions. Preference will be given to students enrolled in music, religious studies, or the health sciences.


Liefeld Music Scholarship
A $500 scholarship will be awarded to an entering or upper-level student majoring in music who demonstrates academic excellence. Active in fostering a strong music program at Luther College, Mr Liefeld was a member of the Regina Symphony Orchestra for many years.


Liefeld-Taube Science Scholarship
An $800 scholarship will be awarded to an entering or upper-level science student who demonstrates academic excellence. This scholarship was established by Mr Paul Liefeld and Dr Henry Taube. Mr Liefeld taught chemistry at Luther College from 1930-1972. Dr Taube, a student of Mr Liefeld and an alumnus of the College, won the Nobel Prize for Chemistry in 1985.


Mature Student Scholarship
A scholarship of $1000 will be awarded to a student registered in at least 9 credit hours who is at least 25 years old. Applicants must demonstrate academic excellence and indicate financial need.  Preference will be given to applicants who are raising families and/or have work commitments in addition to their studies.


Laurance M Maxwell Memorial Scholarship
A scholarship of up to $500 will be awarded to an entering or upper-level student from rural Saskatchewan who has farm connections and demonstrates good character and industry, high academic potential, and financial need.


Caroline Niebergall Scholarship
One scholarship of $200 will be awarded annually to a student preparing for Christian service and who demonstrates financial need and good academic performance.


Part-time Scholarship
Two awards of $200 each may be awarded to Luther College students enrolled in 9 or fewer credit hours for the Fall semester. Eligible students must have completed at least 15 credit hours and attained a UGPA of 75%.  Students registered in courses while in co-op work term are not eligible.


PRESS (Published Research Essay in the Social Sciences) Scholarship
A scholarship of $350 will be awarded annually to a student who writes an essay which makes a creative academic contribution in the social sciences, and which has been accepted for publication in a public medium (newspaper, radio, television). The essay must be solidly researched and well written and may be published in its entirety or in abbreviated form.


Wilfred and Edith Raths Scholarship
One scholarship of $500 will be awarded annually to a student majoring in psychology or sociology who demonstrates academic excellence. This scholarship is offered by the Raths.


Emil Schiewe Memorial Scholarship
One scholarship of $400 will be awarded to a student who is majoring in religious studies and demonstrates academic excellence.


St Mark's Lutheran Church Anniversary Scholarship
This $250 scholarship (awarded in odd numbered years only) will be given to a student who demonstrates financial need. Preference is given to a member of the Lutheran Church (ELCIC) preparing for the ministry or church-related work. This scholarship was established in 1981 by the congregation of St Mark's Lutheran Church in Regina to mark the church's 25th anniversary.


Dr Rex Schneider University Scholarships
Four $1000 awards will be given to students who demonstrate financial need, academic achievement, and proven leadership qualities. Leadership can include roles within their high school (entering students), campus life (upper-level students), community, and/or place of worship. The award, although preferably non-renewable, may be renewed for up to four consecutive years upon re-application and at the discretion of the Awards Committee.  


William & Erna Stan Memorial Scholarship
A scholarship of $500 will be awarded to a student who has completed at least two semesters of university. The award is based on academic standing, with priority given to students majoring in a social sciences or humanities discipline.


Gordon & Leah Stevenson Memorial Scholarship
A scholarship of $1000 will be awarded to a Science student who demonstrates financial need, shows energy and perseverance, and displays academic potential.


Carla Thompson Memorial Scholarship
A scholarship of $500 will be awarded to a student demonstrating involvement and leadership in Luther College, the church, and community. Preference will be given to Humanities and Fine Arts students with good academic performance. Eligible students must have completed at least one semester of university study.


Donald Voigts Memorial Scholarship
One scholarship of $50 will be awarded to a Lutheran student who demonstrates financial need. This is offered in memory of the Reverend Donald Voigts by the congregation of Christ Lutheran Church and will be presented to the recipient at a Sunday morning service.


Robert and Gertrude Wagner Music Scholarship
One scholarship of $750 will be awarded to an entering or upper-level student who shows proficiency in music and attains high academic achievement.
