A science degree furthers your ability to investigate and solve problems, excel at research and find answers. It provides a solid foundation for your interests and goals, whether it is a career or a stepping stone to a professional program. A science degree includes:

  • Core courses: Required courses in writing, mathematics, computer science and laboratory science.
  • Major: The science subject area that you will focus on (minimum 14 courses). Second majors are optional and can be chosen from arts, fine arts or science subjects.
  • Electives: Courses from any subject area.
  • Minor: Optional and can be chosen from arts, fine arts or science subjects. Minimum 6 courses. 
  • All science degrees are 4-year degrees requiring 40 courses (120 credit hours).

Degrees:

  • Bachelor of Science (BSc): Provides depth in one science subject (your major) and breadth across many subjects. Minors and second majors are optional.
  • Bachelor of Science Honours: Provides specialization in the major and is often chosen by students preparing for graduate studies. Minors and second majors are optional.
  • BEd/BSc in chemistry, mathematics or physics: This program is available to students admitted to the Faculty of Education who wish to complete two degrees. The combined program takes five years of full-time study.  
  • Bachelor of Medical Imaging (BMI): Students with the Diploma of Medical Radiologic Technology will complete 20 courses in natural sciences and arts.
  • Bachelor of Medical Laboratory Science (BMLS): Students with the Diploma of Medical Laboratory Technology will complete 20 courses in natural sciences, arts and business.
  • BSc and BSc Honours in Environmental Biology: Students with the Diploma of Integrated Resource Management will complete 20 additional natural science and arts courses.  
  • BSc in Chemical Technology: Students with the Diploma in Chemical Technology will complete 20 natural science and arts courses.

Certificates:

  • Certificate in Computer Science: Designed for professionals wishing to enhance their skills and knowledge, this program requires 20 courses, 10 of which are from computer science. 
  • Certificate in Indigenous Health Studies: This 20-course program provides indigenous cultural perspective and science preparation for students planning to enter the health field.
