Arts
An Arts degree provides you with a solid foundation for your future. Your career choice is only limited by your imagination and interests. With 9 degrees and 28 majors, you can develop a focus that suits your interests. Arts graduates are able to analyze complex issues, research and communicate information, and critically reason effective solutions. They work in careers where they have high job satisfaction and salaries comparable to counterparts in applied and technical fields. Enhance your arts degree by participating in the Cooperative Education Program, international exchange semester, or an internship.
Internship programs are much like the Cooperative Education Program. The Internship Program has three main categories. Actuarial Science, Engineering, and Aboriginal.
Actuarial Science Internship Students in the Actuarial Science undergraduate degree program are eligible to participate in an optional internship between years three and four of academic study in the AcSc program. AcSc Internship students participate in an assisted job search process to secure a paid internship placement with a participating employer. The internship is 12 to 16 months in duration, with each four-month period of employment worth one academic credit towards their degree (three or four credits in total).
Engineering Internship The Faculty of Engineering and Applied Science, along with The Career Centre are pleased to offer the Engineering Co-operative Internship program. Students from Petroleum Systems, Environmental Systems, Industrial Systems, Electronic Systems, and Software Systems Engineering are eligible for placements for either 12 (September start) or 16 (May start) months.
Aboriginal Internship The Full Circle Internship program is a paid, non-credit internship that also provides access to professional development, resume writing, and job searching assistance. The Aboriginal Career Center also provides an Arts Internship/Volunteer that provides the opportunity for non-paid academic credit. Host organizations (government, non-profit organizations, private business) provide supervision, assistance and direction for the interns in a workplace environment. Host organizations are asked to make a financial contribution to cover university and administration costs. The Faculty of Arts and the Co-op Office will screen projects to ensure that the placement creates career-relevant experience.
