The Luther Lecture was established in 1977. The series' inaugural lecturer was Dr Jaroslav Pelikan, Sterling Professor of History, professor of religious studies and dean of the graduate school at Yale University. Dr Pelikan's lecture, "The Irony of the Reformation," addressed the changes that came during the Reformation period. His discussion included the progression of reform and suggested that the ideals of the reformers opened the doors for changes of much larger consequence and scope than Martin Luther and others could have foreseen. An annual event, the Luther Lecture challenges people to reflect upon values and makes a distinctive and stimulating contribution to the life of Regina's university and general community.
