High School Appeal
One of my favorite times during an average Luther College school day is in the morning, just before classes. My office is on the second floor and I have a view to the school’s main entrance. This view allows me to see our many students make their way into the school. All take the same straight path up the sidewalk to the flower bed; following that, some go left and some go right, but in the end, all end up in the same place: Luther College High School.
It seems to me this daily walk is an apt reflection of the path we ask our students to take during their time at Luther College High School. In the beginning, we’re there to lead the way with a firm hand; in the middle, we encourage them to choose their own path; and in the end we do our best to ensure they are where they need to be.
Since 1913, Luther College has been there to lead students to success. It has always been our goal to ensure this opportunity for success is available to any and all students who are as willing to commit to their future as we are.
In 2011 the Luther College Board of Regents established the Community Bursary. This Bursary is for students who display educational commitment, strong leadership skills, and a positive attitude but who are financially unable to enroll at Luther College. The Community Bursary covers the full cost of tuition and continues through grade 12 for students who remain in good academic standing.
To date, this bursary has allowed 10 students the opportunity to join the community of excellence that is Luther College High School. The Board of Regents is committed to supporting the costs associated with awarding the Community Bursary for as long as is necessary. The reason for this letter is to invite you to contribute to a fund that will ensure that the Community Bursary becomes financially self-sustaining
It is important that we maintain the vision of those who established Luther College with its emphasis on a high quality education, and a commitment to our students as well as the community we serve. The creation of the Community Bursary Fund reflects our College’s vision of providing a “quality education in a Christian context” for all those who want to attend Luther College.
I ask you today to make a gift to the Community Bursary Fund, so that the College may stay true to the direction of its Founders, and continue to lead young, deserving students to success.
All the very best to you and your family in this beautiful, fall season.
Sincerely yours,

Bryan Hillis, PhD
