The International Baccalaureate program of studies

Luther College offers capable, enthusiastic students in grades eleven and twelve the opportunity to pursue the International Baccalaureate program of studies.

The IB program serves the needs of high school students who are:

  • curious, inquiring, highly motivated learners;
  • socially concerned citizens of their community and the world;
  • academically skilled and knowledgeable in many subject areas.

The IB program seeks to educate the whole person – intellectually, personally, emotionally, and socially. It also strives to promote international understanding and peace.

The International Baccalaureate provides an enriched curriculum that both covers and  extends beyond regular Saskatchewan curricula in its depth and detail. It emphasises the development of the necessary critical skills that university-bound students need to master:

  • reflection
  • inquiry
  • thinking
  • analysing
  • evaluating

The IB program demands that students develop the organisational, time management, and study skills necessary for their success at university. In fact, the IB is recognised internationally as the pre-eminent qualification for university studies.

CAS component

The International Baccalaureate diploma program has a creativity, action and service (CAS) component. This element serves to enhance students’ sense of social responsibility and moral obligation.
Diploma students are expected to participate in both

  • co-curricular athletic, cultural, and service activities, and
  • community service projects and activities.

By becoming engaged in the world beyond the classroom, the IB diploma student is able to enrich society and develop a personal appreciation of social involvement.
