The Dunlop Art Gallery is extremely pleased to present the exhibition "Green is the Colour: The Art of Rider Pride" on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the Saskatchewan Roughriders. Running from September 4 - November 14, 2010 at our downtown Gallery location (Central Library, 2311 12th Avenue), this exhibition commemorates a special period in our province's history, where we pause to reflect on why it is that our football team means what it does to us all.

The curators have brought together both historical and contemporary works from emerging and established Saskatchewan artists, including Wilf Perrault, David Thauberger, Kenneth Lochhead and rising art star Graeme Patterson, among others.

Alongside these artists, we are also very proud to be featuring a special piece of commissioned artwork by Luther College High School students. Working with art teacher Drew Hunter and artist-in-residence Jefferson Little (both of whom are also featured in the exhibition), thirteen grade 11 and 12 students worked over a 6-week period to produce a series of small painted panels that explore the concept of the "Thirteenth Man" and the importance of the number 13 in Rider and wider cultural mythologies.

The student work will be integrated into a larger piece by Jefferson Little, tentatively titled "Green is the Colour, Thirteen is the Number", and will be mounted prominently within the exhibition in the Gallery. The piece, as well as photos of the students, will also be featured in "Building Pride", the official catalogue for the exhibition, co-published with the Saskatchewan Sports Hall of Fame and Museum. Each of the students involved in the project will be receiving a complimentary copy of this publication.

The official opening kick-off celebration will be held on Saturday September 4 in Victoria Park beginning at 2pm. All students, parents, friends and faculty are most welcome to attend. This will be a great chance to celebrate the student work, meet the other artists and mingle with other Roughrider VIPs.
